Stevens Super Prestige

There are few bicycle brands more closely associated with cyclocross racing than Stevens. With a palmares that includes multiple world championships in various fields, plus more local and regional victories than anyone can count, Stevens is synonymous with the top echelons of the Euro cross scene and the growing cross culture elsewhere in the world. Despite this deep association with victorious crossers, Stevens has not really hit the market with a cyclocross super bike, the likes of which we have seen from their competitors over the past few years. While the Team Carbon is still one of the best performing cross bikes we know of, it does not have the myriad modern features that racers have come to expect from top-shelf race machines.
That has all changed this year however, with the launch of the Super Prestige, a cross superbike that can go toe-to-toe with the feature-laden race bikes from Stevens' competitors but adds in their unparalleled level of cyclocross bike know-how and experience. Super Prestige is not just an updated version of the Team Carbon. No, it represents a complete return to the drawing board for Stevens and their best effort yet at delivering performance to top-level athletes.
So, let's break it down a bit. The Super Prestige is made from a super high modulus carbon fiber; modulus being a measure of strength. Higher modulus = greater strength per a given weight = you can use less of it = lighter bike. It's a simple equation and results in an amazingly light frame. The tubes themselves are also shaped, with massively oversized tubes. The seat tube tapers, with its greatest diameter at the BB junction. The top tube is flattened, to allow easy portaging on run-ups. The bottom bracket area is asymmetrically shaped to allow both stiffness and the appropriate clearance for chainrings and mud. In a first for Stevens carbon bikes, the Super Prestige employs a tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" full carbon fork, which runs through a massive head tube area. All of these features distill down to a bike that is remarkably light and stiff under load. Just what you want from your race-specific rig.
And then there's the small details, all evidently thought through to provide a bike that not only performs to a high level, but is also user-friendly and easy to maintain and set up. Stevens smartly recognizes the popularity of electronic drivetrain systems for cross, so the Super Prestige comes with two sets of modular, removable cable guides - one for cable shifting and one for electronic wires, both to be routed internally, keeping the bike clean looking and, more importantly, keeping the cables themselves away from dirt and contamination. The rear brake cabling is also internally routed. The housing disappears into the top tube and emerges from a small port just above the rear brake, making brake routing and setup amazingly easy. The seat mast is of a semi-integrated design that requires no cutting. It uses a carbon topper from Ritchey that is light and simple, installs easily and adjusts in seconds.
In another departure from previous Stevens cross bikes, the Super Prestige uses completely revised geometry across its size run. One of the only complaints about the Team Carbon is how agressive the geometry is. It's a bike made only for the most flexible and fit among us and is simply too low in the front end for many riders. On the other hand, the Prestige and Vapor bikes are a bit too tall for some crossers. The Super Prestige splits that difference and offers a geometry that is more realistic for riders and racers of all kinds, that's sure to satisfy the vast majority of rider types with little need to resort to extreme fit techniques.
The Super Prestige comes in 6 sizes. Its shaped seat tube uses a stiff but easily replaceable braze-on front derailleur tab. The bottom bracket shell is press-fit BB86 type. BB86 is simply the press-fit version of the good old thread-in BB units. Campy, SRAM and Shimano all make BB86 units, which are compatible with standard 24mm spindle cranks. We sell the Super Prestige as a frameset or as a complete bicycle with a variety of build kits.
