Challenge Grifo XS Cyclocross Tire
The Grifo XS is built for speed, pure and simple. File tread tires are growing in popularity because as cyclocross grows in popularity, the season begins earlier and earlier in the year, meaning a greater number of dry, fast courses in the late summer and early fall. The file tread provides excellent grip on pavement, grass and dry hardpack. On the other side of the racing calendar, many experienced racers dust off the file treads when the going gets snowy, as it's widely said they offer superior grip on hard-pack and loose snow conditions encountered in December and January. The Grifo XS also features side knobs that activate in the corners, and dig in to a wide variety of terrain types to aid in high-speed cornering. After all, speed is nothing if you can't stay in control through the turns.
The Grifo XS is available in tubular and clincher type tires. They're commonly used for early season races, before the weather turns wet and cold. Many of our team riders have also found the Grifo XS to be a versatile tire throughout the year, especially used as a rear tire in conjunction with a front tire with some greater grip.

Tubular Tire Disclaimer: Tubular tires rock, but they can be dangerous unless installed properly, which can be a tricky business. Properly mounting tubular tires requires both specific knowledge and extensive practice. If you lack either of these, please find someone who has both in abundance. Someone like a professional bicycle mechanic, who would _love_ to glue up your sweet new cyclocross tubulars instead of performing yet another tune-up on a hybrid.
