Challenge Grifo Cross Tires
When one factors in cost, ride quality, performance and longevity, the Grifo is probably the best all-round cyclocross tubular tire in use today. The tread pattern is legendary in the sport of cyclocross and just about every serious cross racer starts their seasonal equipment build-up by purchasing a new pair of Grifos. The Grifo's tread is designed for all-round cyclocross racing use with a fast-rolling yet grippy tread down the center and an aggressive dot pattern on the sides to handle high-speed cornering. It excels in fast cyclocross courses with variable terrain. It's fast enough to handle hard-pack dirt and pavement, yet aggressive enough to carve through slippery and muddy conditions and give ample grip for steep hills and loose sandy sections.
The Grifo is our go-to tire for most cross applications with the sole exception of deep mud. Thanks to the hand-made casing and latex inner tube, the Grifo also seems to float over uneven ground with superb feeling. The Grifo is available in tubular or clincher type tires, both with 32mm width casing and tan sidewalls.

Tubular Tire Disclaimer: Tubular tires rock, but they can be dangerous unless installed properly, which can be a tricky business. Properly mounting tubular tires requires both specific knowledge and extensive practice. If you lack either of these, please find someone who has both in abundance. Someone like a professional bicycle mechanic, who would _love_ to glue up your sweet new cyclocross tubulars instead of performing yet another tune-up on a hybrid.
