Born and raised in western Michigan, Chicago resident 12 years and counting. Youth was filled with BMX bikes, trails and dirt jumps in the local woods, and escape via bicycle. Many shins were repeatedly hamburger'd - seriously, have you seen my legs? - and many cheap framesets were broken to be re-welded by my father.
Helmets weren't really a thing back then; perhaps this explains my slightly warped sense of humor.
After college and moving around a bit, I finally got back on a bike for fun instead of to get around. Made new friends, went self-employed for a few years, put down some roots, rode more. Joined a club, started racing. Did exactly one road event, a criterium in which I was dropped in the first lap. Raced track; won some socks in a 5-lap scratch and a couple match sprints. Most of the time I got lapped. Checked out this thing called cyclocross. Immediately got a used cross bike and started racing it. I'm still getting lapped sometimes, but I like to think I'm going faster than I was 5 seasons ago. Trying to bring back my once-brutal bunnyhop.
Strengths: Straight downhill sprints, possibly gravel, being tall, and Canon cameras.
Weaknesses: Climbing, pizza, ice cream, hockey temper.
