Stage 2 Belfast – Belfast 219km
Watched the stage on Eurosport feed this morning and caught some footage of yesterday’s Maglia Nera, Ramon Carretero Mariacq, working his way through the caravan of team cars and getting a mention. Sean Kelly probably said something about him “making the calculation” while doing domestique duty.
The good news: Ramon was second-to-last on the stage today, finishing 3:42 down, a firm 3 seconds ahead of Androni Giocattoli’s Emanuele Sella.
The bad news: Ramon strengthened his grip on the Maglia Nera, now with a 2:34 margin behind Giant-Shimano’s Tom Stamsnijder.
Clearly we’re going to need to come up with something to keep this interesting, so today I’m adding my favorite interesting names in this Giro’s field:
1. Boy Van Poppel (Netherlands, Trek Factory Racing) 148th place overall, +2:18
2. Yonder Godoy (Venezuela, Androni Giocattoli) 99th place overall, +1:17
3. Gert Dockx (Belgium, Lotto Belisol) 188th place overall, +5:28
