Sunday’s races—the first January nationals in history—showed us the future of American cyclocross. Compton’s win was no less impressive for its predictability, and Katie Antonneau’s 2nd place at only 19 years old should have the U.S. ‘cross community giddy at what her future holds. Jeremy Powers, however, owned the day, by doing what his legions of fans have been waiting for him to do since he took 5th place in his first senior nationals in 2006: he executed perfectly, and it was beautiful.
